A donkey for Reem
My sister-in-law, Reem, declared she wanted a donkey and lamented that she couldn't paint a donkey for herself so I painted one for her. An Egyptian one. Just like the ones she saw in Egypt when she was little. A little happiness in the form of paint and canvas. Happy Thanksgiving or just a happy day.

And on a side note, I'm so unhappy that Drawing Magazine has decided not publish anymore. I found so many, many interesting pencil pushers there. Whah!!!

So, on to the rest of it. I scanned it onto my computer and enlarged it, then used calipers to make sure I had the correct proportions as I sketched it directly onto the canvas with charcoal. I sealed that, then started painting. My friend asked me to frame it as she said she had no idea what she would choose so I went real traditional with gold, heavy and quite lovely. I'm pleased with the end result and very glad I had the opportunity to make my friend happy.

And also, my sister in law asked me to paint her portrait from a photo when she was a baby.
She said, "It was when I remember being healthy and happiest," (I'm paraphrasing here, but hopefully you gather the intent)
I really enjoyed painting her baby fingers and feel quite blessed to be asked, especially considering she is an artist too!
Cheers all, and remember to stop to smell the flowers.Karen
